What to Expect in Tanamalwila (T'wila)
NidiKumba is quite a find! You will be a guest at a Eco Friendly accommodation lodge. Its dry zone forests and elephant country. Geckos and frogs on the walls is not a rare sight. From lizards, iguana, monkeys, peacocks, buffalo, butterflies and birds are all around the area. You'll feel rex in the wonderful simple country style cottages surrounded by tranquility of the forest.
You can experience the local lifestyles at your leisure. Thursday is the local market day. A good opportunity to get to know the local colors, sounds, smiles and smells of Thanamalwila.
In T'wila (Thanamalwila)
Post Office: There is a post office in Thanamalwila opposite the police station.
Internet Cafe: At Nidikumba we do have wifi. There is a internet cafe next to the local bus stand.
Buses: The E01 Southern Sri Lanka highway from Bandaranaike International Airport to Nidikumba is about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Planing helps with the shorter routers since after 19:00hrs or 7pm the local bus services don't operate (much).
Trains: The closest train station from T'wila is in Ella 60 km.
Banks: Bank of Ceylon and the People's Bank are in Tanamalwila but no ATM foreign cards can be use here.
Monkey (notes) can be changed in local banks. Tessa a bigger town 21km south of T'wila has a Commercial Bank where foreign cards are accepted at ATM.
So Don't Leave Home Without.
- Checking with a Sri Lankan embassy or consulate to see whether you need a visa - Online Visa to Sri Lanka. Enter all the passport information exactly as on the passport, else it can be invalid or you can experience a delay when you pass Immigration at the airport. ETA is electronic and linked to your passport. You only need to show the passport at Immigration on arrival and your through hassle free.
